Over and over in the Bible, God says that he saves us in order to draw attention to himself. Why did God design salvation that way? Over and over in the Bible, it appears that God saves us in order to draw attention to himself. This is nowhere clearer than in the first chapter of Ephesians. There we are told that God “predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ.” Why? “To the praise of his glorious grace” ( Ephesians 1:4 4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blemish before him in love: –6). Again, just a little later it says God predestined us. Again, why? “To the praise of his glory” ( Ephesians 1:11 11 in whom also we were made a heritage, having been foreordained according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his will; –12). And then Paul says even our eternal security is “sealed with the promised Holy Spirit.” Why? “To the praise of his glory” ( Ephesians 1:13 13 in whom ye also, having heard the word of the truth, the gospel of your salvation,-- in whom, having also believed, ye were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, –14).
