To have the Son, you must receive him by faith. “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life” ( 1 John 5:12 12 He that hath the Son hath the life; he that hath not the Son of God hath not the life. ). But what exactly does it mean to “have the Son of God”? How do we come into possession of Jesus? If we don’t possess him, we remain dead in our sins. So this is one of the most important questions in the universe. The answer was expounded by John Piper in a 1985 sermon.
