What Does My Stealing Say About My Soul? // Ask Pastor John

A video published by Desiring God on August 26th, 2020

Whether we steal time, money, glances, or anything else, our impulse to take what is not rightfully ours reveals a lot about our view of God. What does my stealing say about my soul? Stealing manifests in a lot of different forms. It could be looting, or shoplifting, or cutting corners at work, or fudging on tax forms. But what does this impulse to steal, this urge inside us, say about us? That was the question Pastor John took up in a 1986 sermon on Ephesians 4:28 28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing that is good, that he may have whereof to give to him that hath need. , a text where Paul writes this: “Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need.” That word was given to Christians in a local church — yes, to Christians who were members of the local church in Ephesus.
