If you are in Christ, you have reasons for hope — this is what Christianity means. You may not be an outstanding communicator, or a brilliant apologist, or have an answer for every theological or historical question concerning Christianity. But God, in his mercy, placed hope in your heart by causing you to be born again ( 1 Peter 1:3 3 Blessed `be' the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy begat us again unto a living hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, ), and therefore, any true believer has real reasons for hope. Your hope does not rest in your ability to communicate it to those who ask you “for a reason for the hope that is in you” ( 1 Peter 3:15 15 but sanctify in your hearts Christ as Lord: `being' ready always to give answer to every man that asketh you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, yet with meekness and fear: ). With a good conscience, then ( 1 Peter 3:16 16 having a good conscience; that, wherein ye are spoken against, they may be put to shame who revile your good manner of life in Christ. ), our call is not to obligate belief but to share our glorious reasons for hope with those who don’t yet know it.
