Should Anyone Say, ‘I Am of Calvin’? // Ask Pastor John

A video published by Desiring God on October 24th, 2019

As we sit under preaching in our churches, what matters most is not how eloquent the teacher is, but how much truth shines forth in his content. “I am of Calvin.” Are we forbidden from making such a claim? Karen, a listener who loves DG, and who recently was in the room with us in Nashville for our first live recording, asks it — pointedly asks it. “Hello, Pastor John, and thank you for Ask Pastor John! In what way is saying ‘I am a Calvinist’ (or ‘I am of Calvin’) different than saying ‘I am of Paul’ or ‘I am of Apollos,’ as Paul warns against in 1 Corinthians 3:4 4 For when one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not men? ? Is it different? It’s an honest question, and I hope it doesn’t come across sounding like a personal challenge. It’s not meant to be so. I thank God for you and your Reformed convictions and focus on God’s glory, beauty, and all-surpassing worth.” Read or listen to this interview at our website: https://www.desiringgod.org/interviews/should-anyone-say-i-am-of-calvin Find other recent and popular Ask Pastor John episodes: https://www.desiringgod.org/ask-pastor-john
