In 1990, handing out gospel tracts on a plaza in Kyiv, Phil Johnson was confronted by a mime from an American church. Phil had broken up their crowd. They were miming the gospel. The encounter stayed with John MacArthur, and a year later the two of them planned a book on the back of a Subway placemat. It became Ashamed of the Gospel.
